I Love a Challenge!

If you subscribe to my You Tube Channel you know that I have been playing around with transfers. Started out as tissue transfers and then I decided to start experimenting with fabric/cloth.

So.....one of my subscribers kinda challenged me to use sheer fabric with this process so I did and LOVE what came out of it!

Here are the steps. Give it a try......FUN!!

First I pick out my fabric. This is a sheer fabric which you really can't tell here but you will be able to tell as we go.
*******

Next I paint my image on freezer paper (shiny side up) with acrylic paint. Let dry thoroughly.
*******
Lay down layer of Mod Podge over dried image
*******
Lay fabric over image while Mod Podge is wet
*******

Put layer of Mod Podge mixed with a little acrylic medium or acrylic varnish. This prevents the piece from being brittle.
Let dry completely
*******
Peel fabric off of freezer paper when completely dry
*******
And there it is!!! Beautiful!!

Another Student update

These beautiful papers from one of my students who has taken all of my workshops so not sure what these are a result of but I'm thinking "It's Okay to Play" because we do a lot of painting various kinds of papers in that workshop.
NONE THE LESS......these are scrumptious!! And she is not done with them yet.
Lujean loves to use deli paper so that is what you see here.

a word from me worth exactly what you pay for it! (my husbands favorite saying) :
I love deli paper too, but as most of you know, I like to take what I have on hand and use it to the fullest, so what I have found is that if I varnish two sheets of tissue paper together with either Gel Medium or Varnish, I get the same weight, texture and durability as deli paper. Just FYI.

Good job my friend and Thanks for sharing :)

Painted Papers kinda day

Just finished up painting this piece of paper.

Didn't make a video...I paint papers all the time so can't video every single one, but can share it here with you :)
I LOVE the way this one turned out!
This was my work surface where most of my painted papers start but I usually have to do a lot more. This one just painted itself and could almost be framed as is!! Hmmmmm.

*******
SO.....it is an absolutely GORGEOUS day here in Hot Springs, Ar.!! 70 degrees!! Haven't seen that in a while! I took advantage of the sunshine and hung all my painted papers outside to photograph!! Beautiful huh?! Almost like stained glass.
I use these papers for journal pages so if you have one of my journals you probably have some of these in there.

Student update

Just love seeing what my students are doing "since" the workshop!!
Back in November Alice came and spent 2 days with me in my Studio and made a wonderful journal!

We had a great time and she has been going strong ever since!
Below is a journal she has since made for her grandson!
I LOVE IT!!!

What absolute fun!!! And the Button is a glass button made by her husband, Mike, who is a glass artist.
BUT....that's not all....
Alice is a Zentangle Artist who teaches workshops and makes these AWESOME beads!!!

Are these not spectacular???
I consider myself so blessed to have so many wonderful artists come into my Studio and learn from me when they have such gifts in their own right!!
Thanks for letting me share Alice!!
You are the Bomb!!!

Tissue Layering

Been having a great time lately doing what I call "Tissue Layering" I've found it to be a terrific way to preserve brittle pages out of old books among other things.
Now I know all you Mixed Media Artists have collected a lot of stamps and I don't mean stamp stamps, I mean Postage stamps! I have...tons of them, but only would use one here and there.
SO......I thought.....hmmmm.....tissue layering!!

If you want to know more about what I am doing here check out my You Tube video on this process.
Also....I will be teaching this process in my "Painting Papers for Whatever" class at Art & Soul Retreat Workshops in Portland, Or. in April of 2014.

Out of the pens of babes!

YES, I am on vacation, but a customer who bought one of my journals wrote me and sent this picture.

THIS warmed my heart and my Shari would have LOVED it!

Journals and ROAD TRIP!!

HELLO ALL!!
I've been busy making journals for Christmas orders and am getting more inventive with them everyday! Making them has really helped me get back in the creative mode. I hope someday to be painting again but for now....it's JOURNALS!!
This one above was fun to do! The back and front are felted pieces I did on my felting machine. LOVE doing that! and the straps are from weavings I did. Little button on top is handmade by me out of sculpey clay.
This one is from a 1962 Readers Digest book. Hand crocheted straps and more sculpey buttons and beads.
Go to www.suzisart.blogspot.com to see more of each one of these.
*******

THE MOST EXCITING thing for me lately is that my husband and I are leaving on the 27th for a BIG

We have had, as you well know if you follow this blog, a very hard year and we are getting away to do some healing. We are going out WEST!! Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma then HOME.....maybe :)
I am really hoping and praying that this trip will inspire me to get back to my painting again. When I first started back painting in 1987, my work was mostly southwest art. I love the culture and I love the color so praying that inspiration will return.
SO......adios until the trip is over which is going to be about 2 1/2 weeks....
Thanks for your continued support.....

Just Because....

Haven't been here in a little while, but I have been working. Have made several journals and blessed to be selling them faster than I can get them on here WHICH IS A GOOD THING!! I have two for sale right now and making another. You can check them out at

BUT
THIS IS MY NEWEST ENDEAVOR....."Just Because"

"Just Because" is a series of miniature journals that act as a card/gift.
Each journal is approximately 4" x 3" (size may vary slightly) and has 6 small pages with something fun on each page and each one has a "Secret" Envelope with a fun surprise in each one. You can add something to that as a special gift for whoever you are gifting the "card" to.
Comes with an Envelope as well.
Go to sUZI mADE to check out what fun these are!!!
Hope you Enjoy!

THE JOURNEY - Journals by Suzi

Finally getting pictures made of my Journals I'm making. Hope to have them up on my site soon for sale but wanted to give you a preview. I have shown a few inside pages but impossible to show all. Each one is filled with fun and unique pages. Some for writing and/or drawing on, some for gluing or taping things on, some to store things in, some just to look at and enjoy. Surprises in each one!!
They are all called "The Journey" and on the back page I have written "Life is a journey....Embrace it"
I've made these in memory of my daughter Shari who loved to journal.
Hope you enjoy looking as much as I enjoyed making!!

This one is deliciously thick!! Approximately 70 fun pages!!

This one is approximately 48 pages. Again...all uniquely different
